Outdated Links

Postby slchost » Wed Jul 29, 2009 12:04 pm

Fortunately, (or not), I only come to the forums when I have to look for an answer or submit a trouble ticket. Each time, I see this topic, right there on top, but pass it by. I think I'll speak to this now.

Whenever I'm cruising the net looking for new shoes, current news or a hosting company, admittedly, my guard is up. When I enter into a transaction, it's because my comfort level is allowing it. My guard is still up though -- looking for things that might be hints that something's amiss. I have to admit that I'm getting a red flag on something here. It might not be anything, but it's an indication there could be a problem here.

There's a couple of problems here: Dead, changed or lack of new links on the sales AND support side, and, no updates when they're brought to someone's attention. (acknowledged but not corrected)

I'll site two examples here. (not that I have more, but they are indicative of the problem)

When I first joined almost a year ago, I discovered that a link to the free FTP client was a dead link. pffft...not a big deal. I just happened to be in a pinch one day and needed one so I tried to download it. http://www.skynethosting.net/downloads/fo-wf651.exe I alerted support the link is dead and they acknowledged it said they'd fix it. All this time....it's still dead. (btw, I have fo-wf75 if you need it) This is such an easy fix but yet...well, anyway.

Next, one of my customers is on the road a lot and gets his mail via the web. He had grown fond of RoundCube Webmail when he was with another hosting company. Of course, this is an advertised component here so everyone should be happy. When he told me that it's not available or there's problems...I checked it out and found there was some kind of problem. Of course, I searched the Knowledge base and forums first...and didn't find any mention of a problem. Instead, I find excitement and thanks for it's installation here.

So, I submitted a trouble ticket and learned that it's no longer available here, (problems or something). When I asked why it's still being shown as an available component on the sales side, they installed it just for lil ol' me. Trust me, I was very thankful they did this since it saved me from having to go to my customer and try to explain how it's not available anymore yet I'M still advertising that it is and then I'D look like the one who doesn't know what's going on! All I know is it must be trouble because the techs had a heck of a time getting it up and running. (Thanks again guys!)

So...what's the problem? Well...it's still up there on the sales side. If you're not going to have it, why still sell it? http://www.skynethosting.net/linux-reseller-web-hosting.htm
"Web Mail | RoundCube/Horde/Squirrel |" Which leads me to my last point. "Latest News"

In your SkyNetHelp area, your latest news is for July 2007. (of course, right below that is this announcement: » February 14: RoundCube! Latest Multilingual Webmail System.
My guess is that you've moved your news dissemination to the forums or you haven't had any newsworthy items for over two years or you pass along information to the highest bidder -- I dunno. lol In any case, I didn't find any news in my Inbox, in the forum or in the Latest News area announcing that you're no longer offering RoundCube so whatever method you're using, maybe ain't that good.

In all fairness, I should write an equally-long statement about the good qualities here at Skynet Hosting because the good does outweigh the bad here. (and if this is the worst of it, feel good about it!) The fact it -- it just don't look good. Knowwhatimean?

Now, I promise to sing your praises in the appropriate forum but I think I'll wait until I see how badly I get toasted here. <g>

Take care and keep up the otherwise, good job!

I can too. But, it seems that by default, it isn't installed on new servers. <?>

============================
"Thanks for contacting SkynetHelp.

The server is not installed with Round Cube, this is a shared server and its bit difficult to install the same for a single client. However server is installed with user friendly / most widely used Squirrel Mail and Horde with extra features than any other webmail has.

Feel free to contact us for any further assistance.

Thank you."

"Rick,

We have introduced RoundCube back in 2007 and it was famous then but we haven't install it on our new servers after 2008-2009. Out of thousands of clients no body ever requested it, however since you are requesting it now we will go ahead and install it for you.

I apologize for the reply from the technical department as they weren't aware of the administrative and hosting plan details."

So...they did it...they took care of me but I don't know if it is available by default. My point was, if it's not available, then it shouldn't be on the plan description page, that's all. <shrug>

Hello,

Sorry if there was any inconvenience but Round cube should be supported on all servers.

Thank you.
